The Falcons were rumored to have significant interest in adding a free agent wide receiver heading into this week, so it's no surprise they made their move today. Some fans and analysts suggested the Falcons should take a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft, but there were no guarantees one of the top three options would make it to them at pick 8.
Ian Rapoport and the team at NFL Network broke down the pending addition of Darnell Mooney to the Falcons this morning. The deal can become official on Wednesday when NFL free agency kicks off.

Darnell Mooney peaked in 2021 with over 1000 receiving yards that season. And although his production has dropped off since the Bears brought in DJ Moore, Mooney has been a consistent producer every single season as the team's second target. This is a great signing for the Falcons as he should be the most consistent proven second wide receiver they will have had in a few years.
We should have seen this signing coming too. Ryan Pace, the former Bears general manager, was actually the one who drafted Darnell Mooney. He's now Director of player personnel with the Falcons. Pace just simply decided to go get one of his guys.
And speaking of personnel additions, this move makes the Falcons first round draft selection even more of a lock. They're going to be selecting an edge rusher. If you want a detailed break down on that likely selection you can find that here.
